Endodontics
In a time when so much is disposable and recyclable, certain things truly deserve to be saved, cherished, and respected. Preserving our natural teeth is invaluable, and there's no one more qualified to do this than an endodontist.
What is Root Canal Therapy?
A root canal treatment is a dental procedure to remove inflamed or infected pulp on the inside of the tooth which is then carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed. Root canal treatment is designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent reinfection of the tooth and save the natural tooth.

How does Endodontic Treatment save the tooth?
Endodontic or root canal treatment is necessary when the tooth's pulp becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, repeated procedures, faulty crowns, or cracks. Trauma can also damage the pulp without visible cracks. If untreated, this can cause pain or an abscess.
During a root canal, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed, the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected, and then filled and sealed with gutta-percha. The tooth is then restored with a crown or filling and functions like any other tooth.
Endodontic treatment preserves your natural smile, allows you to eat normally, and reduces the need for future dental work. With proper care, most teeth treated with a root canal can last a lifetime.
What is Endodontic Retreatment?
Endodontic retreatment is a specialized procedure performed by endodontists to address issues that may arise following a previous root canal treatment. While root canal treatments are highly successful, certain situations may lead to the need for retreatment to ensure the continued health of the tooth.
Endodontic failure may be caused by persistent infection (may occur even after treatment), complicated canal anatomy, development of new decay or a cracked or damaged crown/filling that may cause more issues. In the event of these cases, Endodontic Retreatment is recommended by Endodontics to insure the heath of your tooth.
The Endodontic Retreatment process involves 4 steps to insure the tooth and gum remain clear from infection. First, an Endodontist will thoroughly examine the tooth, often utilizing advanced imaging techniques to assess the root canal anatomy. After assessing the entire canal, the Endodontist will remove the original filling, which gives access to the canal for a more comprehensive cleaning and disinfection. Then, the canal is carefully cleaned and shaped to remove and remaining infection and to ensure the resealing of the canal is effective. Finally, the Endodontist will fill the canal with biocompatible material, and the tooth is sealed to prevent further infection.
